HISTORY: This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 was purchased at the Auctions America auction in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in March 2014. I went to this auction to look at a Triumph TR3 to buy. It was not in good enough shape for our collection, but this striking Healey 100 was being auctioned off, and it became the first Austin Healey at our museum.
The seller had done a refurbishment during his ownership that was done to original condition and is very authentic, tidy, and clean. Subsequently I discovered it had been featured online at a Sports Car Market series “What’s My Car Worth.”
In the last 12 years this Healey his been on display at our museum, and driven regularly. The cars in the museum are taken out and driven 40 – 50 miles at a time on a regular basis. This has been one of my favorites to exercise with its crisp handling and throaty exhaust. And, it’s got to be one of the most visually striking vehicles with the windshield down, in the “competition” position.
MODIFICATIONS: The transmission has been upgraded to a BN2 4-speed. The original painted wire wheels have been replaced with chrome wire wheels. It has been repainted in a BN2 style two-tone.
ISSUES/PROBLEMS: The tires have good tread, but are over 10 years old.
RUST: No rust.

PAINT/BODY: The car originally came from the factory Carmine Red. At some point it was repainted in the original Carmine Red with Black side coves. The paint has had a paint correction; it is shiny and is in very nice condition. The steel and aluminum body panels are solid and straight.
INTERIOR: The black leather seats are piped in red. The floors are carpeted in Black. The interior is in very nice condition.
CHASSIS/ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN: The 2.7L, 90HP, 4-cylinder engine starts easily and runs strong with lots of low-end torque. The transmission has been upgraded to a BN2 4-speed box with overdrive. This is a later production BN1 and came equipped with the upgraded hypoid rear axle with the wider 2.25-inch BN2-style rear brake shoes, drums, and components. The independent front suspension and live-axle rear suspension is in good working order. It has the original 4.125:1 rear axle ratio.
WHEELS/TIRES: The 15” – 48 spoke chrome wire wheels have 165HR15 Vredestein Sprint tires that were purchased in May 2014 although dated late 2013.
